The nutritional benefit of corn does not change the fact that it's the first ingredient listed and thus the "densest", beating out any actual protein sources. It's a cheap and plentiful resource that companies use to take the place of more vital nutrients that dogs need in larger quantities. There is no valid excuse to have that as the primary ingredient in a dog food that is marketed as being healthy (and it shouldn't be present at ALL in a cat food, as cats are true carnivores).

I'm not even going to debate by-product meal since it's so widely known as being sketchy at best in the industry. Some foods add bone meal, which is totally fine and indeed a source of calcium. Chicken meal itself is also just fine, but by-products? No. I could even almost accept the by-products if that wasn't the primary protein source in this dog food.

I would be genuinely interested in knowing what pet foods you work as a nutritional specialist for, and if the title involves a college degree in animal health and nutrition.

OK lets clear up a few things here. First of all I'm a nutritional specialist for pet foods so I know a little about this subject. Corn is not a filler, a filler is an ingredient that contains no nutritional value. Corn is a great anti-oxidant and very digestible. Second of all by-products are NOT bad. They are the meat of the animal its just taken off the bone differently and contains parts of the bone giving the food great calcium! And 3rd of all the #1 allergy in dogs is beef!! Corn is not even in the top 5 allergies seen in cats or dogs! And whatever ingredients are listed first on the bag are the ingredients that are more dense than the ingredients listed after that not necessarily meaning the product listed first is the "largest ingredient" used.
